this week > last week

This week I set myself a challenge.

Let me start off by giving you the background to it.

Last month, I went HAM with my credit card; I went to a wonderful wedding and had to spend a lil bitta money on hotel, flights, outfit etc (not begrudgingly at all, it was all defo worth it) so I knew when it came out of my bank this month, plus everything else I gotta pay, I'd be broke as sh't for May.

I knew I spent a lot of money on my day to day spendings but when I added it up, I was unpleasantly surprised.

I buy a coffee and a croissant at the station for breakfast, we have a Starbucks in work, I buy my lunch in work and my role involves a lot of sitting and snacking. Snacks need to be bought. I spend a lot of money on snacks. I didn't realise it, but I was spending like 15 euros a day on food.

15 euros. That's horrible. That's like, 75 quid a week! A WEEK!

So this week, I decided to do, what millions of normal people do.

Bring my own food into work.

Doesn't seem like a big deal, I know, but it involves a lot of preparation. I've also been bringing in and very meticulously planning my snacks. It's been tough to decline when people ask if I want to go to Starbucks with them, or if I'm gonna pick up brekkie before I go to my desk, but I haven't spent any money on food outside of the 40 euros I spent for this week's breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It's so simple and I know people live on far far less but I'm pretty proud I've kept it up for four days. I know I sound so lame, but I think I've worked out I can save about 160 quid a month doing this.

Like I said, May's gonna be a tough one but I'm feeling pretty positive about this and would love to see how long I can last doing this.

I'm still waiting for somebody to treat me to a Freshly Brewed though.

Hint hint to any coworkers who read the blog.
