I keep trainers that I no longer wear, and are therefore obsolete from my wardrobe, in a suitcase under my bed.

I went rooting around for a couple of pairs of shoes to use in a little project I have in mind, and amongst others, found these.

I don't know why, but this picture makes me feel a little bit sad.

(Massive Attack playing in the background might not help.)

It's weird to think that dirty shoes can make me feel contemplative, but I guess in the brain of Lauren McBride, that's how it goes.

I've been wearing Converse since I was about 12, so for a good ten years now, but the other day it dawned on me that I just don't feel the love for them what I once did.

I used to love the idea of a brand new pair of white All Stars, and don't get me wrong, I still think that they look amazing, and I don't know if it's a case of an evolution of style or what, but I feel a bit detached from them, as if I've been in a ten-year relationship with somebody, and I've realised it's not working.

Not even that the relationship isn't working, it's as if I've cheated on Converse with Vans.

Even though I bought my first pair of Vans at 14 - so I shouldn't feel too guilty, should I?

I think recently I've done a bit of a 180 with my style, and I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.

In a way, I see Converse as a more mature footwear choice, over Vans, for a chick in her early twenties, as long as they are in good nick.

However, recently I've started to feel like I'm not really stretching myself if I wear Converse, and when creating an outfit, footwear choice is paramount.

You can wear as many layers (within reason of course) as you like, but it is imperative to choose the right shoe; you can only wear one pair - it's important to get it right.

I'm off to listen to Slipknot and get out of this Karmacoma.

  1. V4L (thats Vans for life for any one not in the know)

  2. noooo converse will stay with me till my late 20's i may even push it at 30 just wear them in a different way. I feel they are a staple like underwear you cannot go without. I suppose they are stylish too you like yours bright white i prefer mine ripped up and muddy.. eh as u can tell i have undying love for them!

I have never had a pair of vans though

  3. @bbyyen I always feel a bit like a tramp when my Converse are too messed up, I just can't pull it off I don't think.

I love the look of a smart khaki trench, dark blue slim fit denim and a pair of white Converse.

    Simple but stylish.

    Much love x

Much love. x
